Saturday's Preview

I was at Cheltenham this week for my final helping of jump racing before attentions turn properly to that flat but sadly Newbury’s Classic Trials meeting was abandoned yesterday due to rain so it’s the Scottish Grand National at Ayr that takes pride of place this afternoon.

A full field of 30 go to post for the 4 mile marathon at 4:10pm and are paying each way the first FIVE home in what is, as usual, a very tricky betting heat.

Mouse Morris bids to win a third National in as many countries this season when saddling Folsom Blue who is currently 16/1 but I think the smart Seeyouatmidnight could be the one to side with at generous odds of 12/1. He jumps well for a novice and Sandy Thompson has secured the services of Steven Fox whose 5lbs claim will count for a lot in this company. Others who deserve their place in the lineup include the very well backed Cause Of Causes (8/1), Vicente (16s) who will be suited by a race of this nature and Ballyculla at 20/1 has been lightly-raced this term and will love the ground. @sevenbarrows trainer Nicky Henderson was also very complimentary about the chances of Vyta Du Roc (14/1), so check out his exclusive blog at which also has news on his Punchestown Festival squad.

From 10am will be top price all runners in the Scottish Champion Hurdle at 3:00pm and 13 will be facing the starter including Sternrubin who arrives here off the back of a solid effort when third at Cheltenham. Under Richard Johnson, he looks overpriced at 8/1. are very proud to have secured the services of Richard Hannon as our ambassador for the 2016 Flat Turf season and with almost 250 horses under his care, his blog is a must read for any serious punter and is available every Friday at

There's some good Premiership Rugby today as Saracens take on Harlequins at Wembley and the Sarries are in great form having won their last three games and are odds on (price) they make it four on the trot. Leicester Tigers play Northampton Saints at Franklin's Gardens and Saints have tasted defeat the last three times they've met the Tigers and are (price) to do the same again today.

Don't forget our Happy Hour between 11am -12pm today and remember we're paying 1/4 odds each way on all Channel 4 races!

He trains Folsom Blue today who looked in decent shape when 4th in the Irish Gn. Stuart Crawford trained Fine Rightly is reportedly in great form and should relish the soft ground.   Cause of Causes
