Saturday's Preview

The 2015/16 jumps season comes to an almighty climax today with a brilliant card from Sandown where Richard Johnson will deservedly be crowned the champion of his profession but the trainers equivalent is much closer! After last week’s victory in the Scottish Grand National Paul Nicholls has gradually been pulling further away from Willie Mullins and is now 4/7 to claim a tenth trainers’ title while Mullins is 5/4. Personally I think it’s ludicrous to determine such accolades based on prize money bearing in mind Nicholls has trained over 90 winners more than his Irish counterpart and it would be a travesty if he isn’t crowned Champion. I’ve worked in stables and know it takes as much effort and cost to train a horse to win a Seller as it does to claim a Group One, however, this battle has certainly added an end of season narrative which can only be a good thing for punters.*

In the Celebration Chase at 3:35pm Un Des Sceaux has a good chance of helping Willie Mullins overhaul Nicholls at the top of the tree and Stanjames.com are 5/4 the Irish chaser takes home the 71k first prize and we’re also top price even money that @sevenbarrows’ stable star Sprinter Sacre can maintain his unbeaten record this season but with Nicholls saddling half of the field, Dodging Bullets at 14/1 looks tempting in a race that is bulging with quality.

The highlight of the day takes place at 4:10pm and sees a maximum field go to post in what is traditionally known as the Whitbread Gold Cup. Stanjames.com will be paying ¼ of the odds each way the first four AND will be top price all runners from 10am. Southfield Theatre is our market leader at 6/1 but in such an open race there is definitely value elsewhere. Hadrian’s Approach, at 16/1, is 2lbs lower then when winning this in 2014 and arrives here fresher than most having unseated at the first in the Grand National, while Henri Parry Morgan is on an upward curve and could still be ahead of the Handicapper therefore offers great value at 8/1 under top pilot Sean Bowen.

Over at Sha Tin in Hong Kong tomorrow morning (9:35am), Highland Reel represents Aidan O’Brien in the QE II Cup and after a gallant 4th place in the Sheema Classic, looks a solid bet at 5/1 under Ryan Moore.

Don’t forget our Stanjames.com Happy Hour between 11am-midday when we’ll be offering enhanced odds plus remember to check out betting.stanjames.com/blog/richard-hannon to read Hannon’s exclusive blog and www.roadtocheltenham.com where Nicky Henderson offers thoughts on his weekend runners and Punchestown team!

HORSE RACING NAP

I’m opting for UAE Prince in the 5:10pm at Leicester. He was backed earlier in the week for the Derby!

BEST EACH WAY

As long as Aintree didn’t take too much out of him, Henri Parry Morgan looks a cracking each way bet in the 4:10pm at Sandown.
