So, after all the talk, disappointment, hype and – last week – joy, the decider is upon us. Surely New Zealand won’t screw this up, but the Lions have momentum following their victory last week in Wellington.

Wimbledon is here again. It’s a bit like the London Marathon in that it seems to come round quicker and quicker with every passing year, but that doesn’t matter. We all soon get into it, even those of you who aren’t that interested in tennis and don’t even know what ‘love’ means – in the game, of course!

Well it’s fair to say most expected the Confederations Cup Final to have Germany and Chile battling it out before a ball was kicked in the tournament, and that’s proved to be the case, with Claudio Bravo’s three penalty saves against Portugal in the semi-finals proving to be the reason why they take on the experimental German side in St Petersburg.

After a great week at Royal Ascot you’d think things would be a little quieter for a while before the focus turns to the Qatar Goodwood Festival but with plenty of runners this week, and three winners, the bandwagon just continues to roll.

ROYAL REACTION

As we all predicted and expected, England won’t be playing in the Final of the U21s Euros on Friday evening due to typically being knocked out at the semi-final stage on penalties against the Germans.

It’s do or die time for the British & Irish Lions as they face the prospect of losing the series against New Zealand if they lose the Second Test against the All Blacks this weekend at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington.

With Chile already waiting for the victors in the Final of the Confederations Cup, big hitters Germany take on Mexico in Russia, with the Mexicans the surprise package if they do reach the Final.

When you think of a word to describe this clash, the term ‘juicy’ could well be used. Both of these were two of the favourites to win the tournament and they now face off in a bid to be in the Final. It’s Cristiano Ronaldo vs. Alexis Sanchez, for goodness sake!

Things are hotting up in the U21s Euros over in Poland, and, with the Under-20s winning the World Cup a couple of weeks ago, the pressure is on England’s Young Lions to come up with the goods in Europe. However, to reach the Final, they must defeat the old enemy. It’s also worth noting that there’s no guarantees of winning the Final either, as Spain and Italy both battle it out to be in the last two.

It's hard to believe we're at the end of Royal Ascot but the show goes in and we've got the Qatar Goodwood Festival to look forward to in a few weeks so there's no time to rest on our laurels.
