Premier League Darts | SS2, 19:00
Finals Night | It's all Wright on the night?
van Gerwen v Anderson | 19:15 MVG 3/10 | Anderson 5/2
Mighty Mike climbed back to the top of the rankings with a 7-4 victory over tonight's opponent and in doing so snaffled the £25,000 Leaderboard Leader prize. The reigning champion has never been beaten in a Premier League semi-final before and he won't fancy losing that record to rival Anderson. However, the Flying Scotsman is one of the few players on the circuit who can match the likeable Dutchman in every department: high scoring and high finishing. The trouble is, predicting which Anderson will show up. From recording a finishing ratio of 77% and an average of 107 to just 14% and 95 the next he's been far too inconsistent this term, something he'll need to address if he is to better the championship favourite.
van Gerwen has won seven of eleven matches between the pair this year and it's hard backing against him. Anderson has the tools to beat him, as the final of 2015 proves, it's just his consistenty that we feel will let him down.
Wright v Taylor | 20:15 Wright 8/15 | Taylor 6/4
Snakebite is having the season of his life, scooping titles seemingly at will by playing an exciting blend of high octane darts. However, the one title he'd love is the Premier League, and he's in the shape to do so. Having chased Michael van Gerwen so hard throughout the 15 weeks he needs to ensure he maintains the intensity for tonight's final push. He blitzed van Barneveld 7-1 last week, topping the table in the process and putting himself in line to pick up the £25,000 league leader's cheque. The bubbly Scot was dreaming of buying some new clobber until van Gerwen turned the gas on himself, beating Anderson 7-4 to retain top status. However, standing in his way is The Power, Phil Taylor, who's looking to end his career with his seventh Premier League title. It would be a fitting finale for The Power, but can he derail Wright's juggernaut? The heart says yes, the head no.
Taylor managed to stage a late battle to secure his spot here tonight, holding his nerve better than Barney and Jackpot and it will take all his strength and iron will to see off Wright. He'll need to hit his doubles consistently because Wright's averages leave no room for error. He'll scrap, for certain, but we can only see one winner on the night. Unfortunately.
