The Continental Breakfast | Match Preview and Betting Tips

Social Sharing:

It’s Saturday morning, there’s a feast of European football to look forward to and you’re feeling hungover. Well, fortunately for those who that applies to, we have the perfect tonic! The #ContinentalBreakfast makes a return to the screen  you’re looking at and this week we’ve trips to Spain, Italy and Germany all thrown in! All aboard!...

We’ll begin this week’s #ContinentalBreakfast with a churro in Spain to watch two sides who fancy their chances of muscling in on the big four in La Liga come the end of the season as Villarreal head to San Sebastian to take on Real Sociedad. It’s fifth vs. fourth in what should be a great game in northern Spain.

The visitors hold the advantage in the recent head to head stakes, losing just one of the last ten meetings against their Basque opponents, with the reverse fixture on home turf concluding in a 1-1 draw. The hosts have won four of their last six matches domestically, whilst Villarreal have lost only once in their last half-dozen games.

What We Sayin’?

This one stinks of a draw. Sociedad have the eighth best home record in the division, whilst Villarreal – you guessed it – have the eighth best record on the road in the league. BTTS to double your money at EVS looks a decent shout, whilst a 1-1 draw at 17/4 also looks a logical bet.

Former Serie A heavyweights AC Milan host Fiorentina in a seventh vs. eighth battle over in Italy.  Just a point separate these two, who will both hold hope of sneaking into the top four come the end of the campaign.

In Federico Bernardeschi and ex-Blackburn man Nikola Kalinic, the visitors have a couple of real goalscorers in their ranks and these two could well prove to be Milan’s undoing this weekend. In fact, Milan have only one once at home against Fiorentina in the last five meetings at the San Siro, and with Fiorentina in good form coming into this game, this could well be an easy pick.

What We Sayin’?

These clashes are normally pretty tight, but we’re backing Fiorentina in Milan. Kalinic to score first in a 0-2 Fiorentina win at 66/1 is very tempting.

We head back to Spain to cover Valencia, who will be delighted they’re back at home. Not. The Mestella has proven to be a tricky home for the former giants these days and they have the third-worst home record in the division this term with only two wins from nine. They’re also very close to the relegation zone in La Liga as well, which perhaps shows that Gary Neville wasn’t the real problem with them last term.

It’s a different story for Bilbao though, who’ve had a pretty decent campaign and sit in eighth place in the division and 14 points off leaders Real Madrid. They have a striker who’s been in good form this term in Spain veteran Aritz Aduriz and should have enough to dodge a possible upset against Voro Gonzalez’s side.

What We Sayin’?

When your star man is Nani – and he’s struggled to regularly turn up this season – then you know you have problems. Bilbao haven’t lost to Valencia in the last eight La Liga meetings, which dates all the way back to 2012. An easy 0-2 away win could well be a simple, yet effective bet at 10s.

With Thomas Tuchel linked with the Arsenal job this week and with Borussia in fourth at the moment in the Bundesliga, surely he’s a perfect fit to take over from Arsene Wenger? After all, he has a proven track record of achieving the aims the Gunners want. But anyway, aside from all that, this is a fixture Dortmund really do enjoy. They’ve won the last three meetings, and the last two matches between them have seen Dortmund win 5-1 consecutively.

Wolfsburg haven’t had the season they were hoping, despite still having a few decent players in their ranks. They’ve lost Julian Draxler to Paris SG in January, but have picked up recently, with four wins in their last six matches. However, with Dortmund’s record, against them, it’s hard to look past a home victory.

What We Sayin’?

Home victory. 3-0 to Dortmund at 15/2 looks as if it has a pretty big chance of coming in.
