The Continental Breakfast | Match Preview and Betting Tips

This week's #ContinentalBreakfast takes you on a couple of trips to Spain to see if table-topping Real Madrid can win at Bilbao, who are extremely strong at home. Real's city rivals tackle fellow title contenders Sevilla in the capital as both look to chase down the top two in La Liga. Elsewhere, in France, Paris SG continue in their pursuit of Monaco at the summit, whilst it's all washed down with Hoffenheim vs. Bayer Leverkusen over in Germany. The jet's ready and waiting, let's go!

ATLETICO MADRID VS. SEVILLA

ATLETICO MADRID 4/6  DRAW 14/5  SEVILLA 4/1

Sevilla head north to the capital looking for a response After bowing out against Leicester City in midweek in the Champions League. That clash with the Foxes meant it is now three games without a win for Jorge Samapoli and his team. Sevilla will need a victory to keep the pressure on Real Madrid and Barcelona above them, but Atletico have an incredibly mean defence, so it certainly won’t be easy for the visitors.

However, recent history favours Sevilla, who won the last match between the pair 1-0, but they haven’t won at the Vicente Calderon in the last eight trips there, which will certainly be a concern. Even more so by the fact Atletico have lost only two of their last 16 games in all competitions, with both of those defeats coming at the hands of Barcelona.

What We Sayin’?

Sevilla will be like a wounded animal and Atleti will surely be licking their lips at the thought on inflicting more pain on their title rivals. A 2-0 home win at 13/2 would be our pick.

PARIS SG VS. LYON

PARIS SG 1/2  DRAW 19/5  LYON 5/1

Two of the top four meet in the French capital on Sunday evening as former title-winners-every-year Lyon meet current holders of the title Paris SG at the Parc des Princes to take on a side who haven’t lost in the league at all this year. In fact, the last time they didn’t pick up a point was at Guingamp just before Christmas.

To be fair, however, Lyon have done excellently these last couple of months, losing only once in their last eight games in all competitions (to Roma in midweek), with six wins in that sequence of results. They’re no pushovers and have personnel in the likes of Mathieu Valbuena and Alexandre Lacazette who can hurt Paris.

What We Sayin’?

It’s hard to look past another home win for Paris. Our tip is for them to win and BTTS at 6/4.

HOFFENHEIM VS. BAYER LEVERKUSEN

HOFFENHEIM 11/10  DRAW 13/5  BAYER LEVERKUSEN 23/10

Having lost just twice all season in the Bundesliga, Hoffenheim will fancy their chances at home to Bayer Leverkusen, who have been very disappointing in the Bundesliga this season. In fact, Bayer have been bang average on the road this season, winning only four away matches from their 11 played. We doubt – with Hoffenheim yet to lose at home in the league – that form will improve this weekend.

However, the hosts have only beaten Bayer once in the last five meetings between the two, which may prove to be a concern for manager Julian Nagelsmann, who’s side aim to finish in the Champions League places come the end of this campaign.

What We Sayin’?

On the back of a four-game unbeaten run, we’re backing Hoffenheim to win, but with BTTS at 13/5.

ATHLETIC BILBAO VS. REAL MADRID

ATHLETIC BILBAO 7/2  DRAW 3/1  REAL MADRID 4/6

For many, Real Madrid away to Athletic Bilbao will be an away banker, but be wary; the Basque side are excellent at home! They’ve got the second-best home record in La Liga with ten wins and three draws from their 14 matches on their own turf and won’t be walkovers for Zinedine Zidane’s side this weekend.

It’s true Madrid have had a great season and are fit and firing, but ZiZou won’t be looking forward to their journey north, despite having a decent record on the road themselves, but the result in this one may not be the one you’re expecting, particularly with Bilbao forward Aritz Aduriz being in good form this term.

What We Sayin’?

We’re going for the draw in this one. Madrid have the firepower to down any team, but you really can’t argue with Bilbao’s enviable home record. 1-1 at 13/2 would be our tip.
