Darts | Premier League Week Fourteen | Preview and Tips

Week fourteen of The Premier League Darts already and Sheffield plays host to the boys on the oche as heavyweight rivals Michael van Gerwen and Phil Taylor cross sabres for the umpteenth time.  Form is beginning to play its part as the weaker players have been eliminated, but that in turn only intensifies the pressure.

Join us on the darkside then, as we look for an out-of-this-world bet on 'Starwars' day that could see us with another Intergalatic credits to buy our very own Millenium Falcon. May the fourth be with you!

Week Fourteen | Jackpot to hit the heights?

Wright v Lewis | 19:15  Wight 8/11 | Draw 7/2 V  Lewis  5/2

With Snakebite having already secured a play-off place the pressure is off him, and when the presasure is off Wright usually performs. However, despite having hit a nine-darter during the week, he may already, to borrow a footballing phrase, be 'on the beach', his motivational levels minimal. Lewis, on the other hand, needs this win and one can expect him to be fully charged for the match. Unfortunately, he has been rather hit and miss this term, and despite hitting a nine-darter himself, there's still a question mark about his confidence.

MATCH BET:  Form suggests Wright for the win, but we'll take a snarling Jackpot to edge a thriller 7-5 at 7/1. The 6-6 draw, at 7/2, also appeals.*

van Barneveld v Chisnall | 20:00 van Barneveld  6/5 | Draw  100/30 | Chisnall  6/4

What a crazy match to call! Chisnall has pulled himself out of a hole and has the possibility of making the top four, but despite playing fantastically, he still cannot finish games off, as demonstrated with his 6-6 draw aganst MVG last week. For Barney, this is an equally important match and the fact that he didn't play at the wekeend means that a focussed and rested van Barneveld should be in contention.

This one really could go the distance, so grab the popcorn and settle in!

MATCH BET: Too tight to call. Take over 8.5 match 180s at 6/5 and 180 machine Chissy to hit the most 180s at 4/6.

Wade v Anderson | 20:45  Wade  7/2 | Draw  4/1 |  Anderson 1/2

Unfortunately, for James Wade at least, he meets a red-hot Scotsman who is, quite literally, flying! He smashed the Players' at the weekend, beating MVG and Wright to win the title, dropping just 12 legs in seven matches in the process! Fortunately, Anderson can get complacent at times, and if he underestimates Wade, then The Machine could make him pay.

Anderson was our pre-tournament pick for the title (he's still 5/1) and he should have enough focus to stay one step ahead of Wade.  He's outscoring him heavily in the 180s market as well, with 46 to James' 19... food for thought!

MATCH BET:  Anderson win 1/2 | Anderson most 180s 2/5

van Gerwen v Taylor | 21:30  MVG 1/3 | Draw 5/1 | Taylor 5/1

The £25,000 match! A win here for MVG would see him win the £25,000 Group Winner's bonusm whilst putting a severe dent into arch-rival Taylor's bid to make the play-offs in this, his swansong year. Mighty Mike is certainly living up to his nickname, hitting a nine-darter in the Players whilst also beating Jackpot to nil.

However, he's shown during the Premier League that he is human, squeezing a draw against Chizzy last week when he should, in all honesty, have lost.

Phil seems to be suffering pyschologically against his great rival, as seen when 3-0 in Rotterdam, only to lose the next eight legs on the spin and there's a feeling the old master is ready to cede defeat to the new. That said, MVG, despite his form, is capable of the odd stutter, so we expect a fighting Phil to make a fist of it, before eventually giving up the ghost!

MATCH BET: Taylor +3.5 at 4/6
