Another week means another #ContinentalBreakfast for you, as we serve up another helping of football from across the world. Fortunately for us - and you, of course - there are some absolute belters this weekend, with a Madrid derby to contend with a heavyweight battle in Germany a dollop of sensational Serie A and some Swiss chocolate - for the first time ever in this feature. Let's face it, who doesn't love a bit of chocolate for breakfast?
It’s time for a Madrid derby as Real aim to close in on the La Liga crown with yet another victory, but they may not have it all their own way considering Atleti have won in each of their last three trips to the Santiago Bernabeu. However, with a Champions League tie against Leicester City on the horizon perhaps Diego Simeone will rest one or two of his star names and put his eggs in the European basket considering their 99% certain to finish third in La Liga.
The hosts are yet to lose on their home patch this season, but may find Atleti once again to be a tough nut to crack, after all, their city rivals have conceded only 11 times on the road this term, second only to Villarreal’s measly eight goals!
What We Sayin’?
This one is so tough to call and may depend on the team Simeone puts out for the derby. We’ll play it safe until the XIs are announced and say a 1-1 draw, but with Sergio Ramos to score last at a whopping 60/1! Let’s face it, with Ramos’ goalscoring record late on in big games, this bet has to be worth something!
This is one of the few fixtures in the Bundesliga which really gets the tongue wagging! A couple of ex-Dortmund players will get a visit from former team-mates on Saturday as Bayern play host in Der Klassiker in a game which sees the majority of Germany stop and watch. Defeat at Hoffenheim in midweek put an end to Bayern’s 20-game unbeaten run in all competitions, of which 18 of those games ended in victory.
But Dortmund are in decent form despite having a pretty lacklustre campaign for their high standards. They sit fourth in the Bundesliga but are top-scorers in the division away from home, but have also conceded the most on the road compared to the three teams above them. This one should have goals in it as Thomas Tuchel looks to gain victory over Bayern for the first time in the last four meetings.
What We Sayin’?
We’re backing Bayern to win it, mainly because they don’t usually lose two in a row, their record over Borussia and their home record. They’ve won ten and drawn three of the 13 games at the Allianz Arena in the league. Potentially triple your money and a bit more with a Bayern Munich win and BTTS at 85/40.
Fourth hosts third over in Italy as both Lazio and Napoli both look to grab a second place finish, with table-toppers Juventus pretty much done and dusted for another season of Scudetto success. Lazio have won two of the last 12 meetings between the pair and the record could well be extended due to Napoli’s great home form, where they’ve averaged just over two points per away match.
The visitors are also unbeaten in their last four Serie A games and also triumphed in the Coppa Italia against Juve in the week. But unbeaten in their last eight games domestically, Lazio have come strong recently and won’t be pushovers on Sunday evening.
What We Sayin’?
We’re backing Napoli, but only just! A 1-2 away victory would be our tip at 8s.
A first trip to Switzerland – ever – in the Continental Breakfast and with the clash, we thought it best not to leave this one out. Unbeaten in nine, Basel continue their assault on the Swiss title, with Young Boys sitting in second, which is exactly the same sequence in both the home and away tables, too.
Basel are yet to lose at home this term and have lost just once on the road this term, which shows you exactly why they begin as favourites. Despite this, Basel did lose the reverse fixture 3-1, but won the four games between the two before that. Will Young Boys make it a double? Possibly not, in our opinion.
What We Sayin’?
There are normally a plethora of goals in these clashes. The winning team has scored three goals in each of the last three clashes, which is why we’re tipping a 3-1 Basel victory at 9/1.
