It’s finally here, the curtain raiser for the big boys, and it’s a re-run of the FA Cup Final – which Arsenal won. Cesc Fabregas is up against his old side and he – and Chelsea – will be seeking revenge for that Final defeat, which, in truth, would have rounded off a fine season for the Blues.
As usual, there’s plenty of questions surrounding Arsenal, but for once it’s not about Arsene Wenger’s contract. Instead, it’ll still be about the situation surrounding Alexis Sanchez, who still hasn’t put pen to paper on a new deal.
Neither has Mesut Ozil, but for some reason it’s just been looked over. That may be because he’s perhaps not as great as some make out, but to be fair to Ozil – and Arsenal, actually – he had a stormer in the Final during the last meeting – we saw him track back once!
New man Alexandre Lacazette will be hoping to start in a competitive fixture for the first time in a Gunners shirt, and with his goal record, you’d have to fancy him to score, too. Others likely to play include Sead Kolasinac, who, like Lacazette will probably start for his competitive debut.
And they aren’t the only brand spanking new players on show. Antonio Conte will be showing off his new purchases probably, with Alvaro Morata and Antonio Rudiger both likely to play a part. One who definitely won’t though is Diego Costa, who’s been seen partying in Brazil and riding a jet ski armed with a Labrador. If that doesn’t some up how mental the striker is then we’re not sure what does.
So, what do the stats say? Well, let us tell you. There’s not been a draw in 90 minutes in the last six meetings, however it’s the Gunners who hold the history having beaten the Blues in the same competition back in 2015, winning 1-0.
What We Sayin’?
We know what Arsenal are like at the start of the season. They always come flying out the traps early doors before having their usual meltdown at around Christmas time.
They’re usually weak and it’s difficult to see how they get through a midfield that was include French enforcers N’Golo Kante and Tiemoue Bakayoko – another new signing from Monaco.
So, without further ado we’re going to stick out neck on the line and edge with a 2-0 Chelsea win. Sound good? That’s a 10/1 shot, which, if it comes in, will start your season off nicely and make Arsenal Fan TV worth watching. Happy punting and welcome back, folks.
