An old classic fixture full of history, drama, goals that may or may not have been over the line, efficiency, non-efficiency, born winners, big disappointments, brilliance and frustration, the Westfalenstadion is the venue for this big midweek clash in the west of Germany. Famed for it's 'Yellow Wall', the home of Borussia Dortmund is atmospheric, and with England in town, we're certain the Germans will crank the noise up a notch of two, even if it is 'only a friendly'. No such thing for an England vs. Germany clash!

GERMANY VS. ENGLAND

GERMANY 8/11  DRAW 14/5  ENGLAND 7/2

The old enemy clash for the first time since February last year as Gareth Southgate takes his charges to Dortmund looking to replicate Roy Hodgson. No, not by being atrocious in an actual tournament and losing to a Scandanavian minnows, but winning in Germany.

England came from 2-0 down against a strong German side in that friendly, with Eric Dier scoring a dramatic late header and moments later, supporters were left believing their side could win the Euros, the World Cup, the Champions League and Serie A following victory – or was that just us?

Anyway, since then, England have, of course, been awful. Hodgson’s gone after admitting he didn’t know what he was doing (here). It’s time for a new dawn under Southgate – a manager who took Middlesbrough from the Premier League to the Championship in the past.

Despite that negativity, to be fair to Gaz, he has been relatively successful with youth development and his latest squad sees a number of youngsters included in the squad. Skipper Wayne Rooney is out, and if the central midfield pairing does well in the midweek game and Sunday’s clash with Lithuania at Wembley, who’s to say the Manchester United captain will get another chance for the national team.

The Germans are typically efficient again and are undefeated this season, with five wins and a draw from their six matches. Social Media Manager Lukas Podolski is set to win a final. 130th cap for his country.

What We Sayin’?

There hasn’t been a draw between these two since the 1982 World Cup, so it’ll likely go one of two ways on Wednesday evening. You never know what you’ll get with England, but we doubt the visiting fans will care with the beer being cold and relatively cheap in the west-German city.  We’ll hedge our bets on a 1-3 England win at 40/1.
