Football | Real Madrid v Man United | UEFA Super Cup Preview and Tips

Think European royalty and one could be forgiven for thinking this was a piece on the hectic world of the ruling elite, and in a way it is.

It’s finally here, the curtain raiser for the big boys, and it’s a re-run of the FA Cup Final – which Arsenal won. Cesc Fabregas is up against his old side and he – and Chelsea – will be seeking revenge for that Final defeat, which, in truth, would have rounded off a fine season for the Blues.

Whilst all you Premier League fans still have another week to wait, for those EFL supporters, the time has come, ten months of joy, pain, highs and lows begin from this weekend.

Time’s running out folks.

Time’s running out folks.

Yes we know it’s only July, but, typically, the Europa League and Champions League continues this week with a host of fixtures, but instead of rifling through every one of them, we’ve opted to take a look at five of the most notable clashes across Wednesday and Thursday evening this week.

Football | Fantasy Premier League Preview

With the Premier League fast approaching, Fantasy Premier League users will soon open up (If they haven’t already) their accounts once again for this season of football.

Just when we thought the football was over – for a month at least – along comes Star Sixes, which is pretty much Masters Football, six-a-side battles in London’s O2 Arena, featuring a host of legendary players and also footballers from China and Scotland.

Well it’s fair to say most expected the Confederations Cup Final to have Germany and Chile battling it out before a ball was kicked in the tournament, and that’s proved to be the case, with Claudio Bravo’s three penalty saves against Portugal in the semi-finals proving to be the reason why they take on the experimental German side in St Petersburg.

As we all predicted and expected, England won’t be playing in the Final of the U21s Euros on Friday evening due to typically being knocked out at the semi-final stage on penalties against the Germans.

With Chile already waiting for the victors in the Final of the Confederations Cup, big hitters Germany take on Mexico in Russia, with the Mexicans the surprise package if they do reach the Final.

When you think of a word to describe this clash, the term ‘juicy’ could well be used. Both of these were two of the favourites to win the tournament and they now face off in a bid to be in the Final. It’s Cristiano Ronaldo vs. Alexis Sanchez, for goodness sake!

Things are hotting up in the U21s Euros over in Poland, and, with the Under-20s winning the World Cup a couple of weeks ago, the pressure is on England’s Young Lions to come up with the goods in Europe. However, to reach the Final, they must defeat the old enemy. It’s also worth noting that there’s no guarantees of winning the Final either, as Spain and Italy both battle it out to be in the last two.

Both of these sides will have high hopes of winning the tournament, but if Italy are to stand any chance, they’ll need to beat the Germans and hope for a favour elsewhere. The pressure is on for a squad which contains AC Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma and the highly rated trio of Daniele Rugani, Domenico Berardi and Federico Bernadeschi.

Football | Germany v Chile | Confederations Cup | Preview and Tips

Two of the pre-tournament favourites clash in this mouth-watering class as Germany and Chile go head-to-head, a place at the head of the table on offer. With neither team really shining in their opening games, both will be eager to put down a marker for the rest of the competition.

Football | Slovakia U21s v Sweden U21s

Seperated by just a point, Slovakia and Sweden will both be looking to cement their place in the knockout stages here. With so much at stake, this could be a rip-roaring match unencumbered by fear.
