The final European Tour event of 2017 once again joins the Asian and Sunshine Tours to stage a Christmas send-off everyone is invited to! The Randpark Golf Club is the setting for The Joburg Open what is expected to be a wet 'n' wild four days of golf. Our man in the wellies previews the tournament and suggests a couple of bets that may just give StanJames another soaking this week!

We're paying 1/5 odds SIX places at the Johannesburg Open.

The Joburg Open | Thursday 7th December

Favourite: Dylan Frittelli 15/2

Prize Pool€1,300,000

As we mentioned, a huge field of 236 players will compete for the right to be called champ in South Africa in this tri-sanctioned tournament, the richest in South Africa. With so many contenders on show, it's been a challenge to narrow down our picks, but that we have! So, without further ado, check out our players below:

Favourite Dylan Frittelli took down the Mauritius Open last week, but as well as he's playing it's difficult to go back-to-back. He can hit the ball further than most people can imagine and he makes reens with alarming regularity. The 27-year-old hails from Johannesburg and has shown in the past that he can handle inclement weather. That said, he's a little short (15/2) in our eyes and maybe one to watch in play.

Our first pick to tame a course that favours the big hitters and bombers is the 28-year-old Zimbabwean-born Dean Burmester. He was erratic last time out, only managing a T27 finish at the Mauritius Open, but was T4 at the DP World Champs a week before. He's certainly got the length and will want to end the season on a high. Not the biggest we've ever tipped, but at 20/1 there's a bit of play in his price and we'll have a nibble!*

We looked at Haydn Porteus but scratched the 25-year-old South African from the book at the last minute. it wasn't an easy decision, especially with StanJames paying 1/5 odds SIX places but at 14/1 there's value to be had elsewhere. Instead, we're going to plump for Romain Langasque. The 22-year-old Frenchman finished third at the Mauritius last week and led the field for greens hit. He finished 11th here last year, which shows he has the game to contend. A mark of his ability was his 39th place finish in the Masters as an amateur. He arrives full of confidence and his 28/1 price whets our appetite.*

Lastly, we're going to go for someone who may be slightly under the radar, but the talented 27-year-old Erik van Rooyen's course is Randpark. He finished his first Challenge Tour in third, and his name has been on the lips of many a seasoned observer for quite some time. He won the Hainan Open in mid-October and was T3 at the NBO Golf Classic Grand final. He has the length, has the ability and might just well shine. 45/1 says we'll back him to do just that!*

So there you have it. Our picks for glory...agree?
