Andre Villas-BoasTottenham have been rebuffed by Lyon following their interest in French international keeper Hugo Lloris. Andre Villas-Boas is keen to bring in competition, and ultimately a replacement, for 41-year-old Brad Friedel, but Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has vowed to do all he can to keep the France captain: “He will stay at Lyon (8/1 To Win Ligue 1) unless he absolutely wants to go. The best present we can give to the fans is finding a way to keep him. We will try to do just that.”

Brendan Rodgers has further moved to quell speculation surrounding Andy Carroll’s future by insisting the hitman is happy to stay on Merseyside. Carroll has been the subject of interest from the likes of West Ham and Newcastle (16/1 Top Four Finish), with the latter the more likely destination owing to their European football. Rodgers said: “There has been a lot written about Andy, but you saw today he's happy to be here and he's worked very well since he's been here. The reality is he's still a Liverpool (Evs To Beat West Brom On The Opening Day) player, he can fit into how I want to play, and he's happy here. I'm certainly not wishing to push him out of the door.”

West Bromwich Albion manager Steve Clarke meanwhile has insisted that striker Shane Long is not for sale. Clarke did however admit to interest in Simon Cox, reportedly from Blackburn Rovers (2/1 To Beat Ipswich On The Opening Day): “A club has put a bid in for him. It wasn't accepted but Simon didn't feel he was quite right to play.” On Long’s future, Clarke added: “There has been nothing regarding Shane. There have been no bids and he is not for sale. His future is with us 100%.”
