Premier League Betting Preview - Fulham v Tottenham

Martin JolSpurs haven’t had a bad start to the Premier League this season under new manager Andre Villas-Boas and will hope to continue a decent run of results with a win at Craven Cottage this afternoon. The trip to West London will be a tough one though, as Fulham are notoriously a difficult team to travel to for most sides in the league, and after a winless run of six games they will be eager to rectify their last home defeat with victory against Tottenham.

It will definitley be an interesting affair though, as Martin Jol welcomes one of his old clubs, and Fulham, well may not welcome so warmly, their old player Clint Dempsey, who returns to the Cottage for the first time since leaving in the summer, after revealing he was unhappy and not being treated right. Nevertheless, attention will no doubt turn to the pitch once the hostilities are out of the way and Spurs have the slight advantage here given their more impressive record. They can be backed at odds of 7/5 for the win here, compared to Fulham who aren’t far off at 15/8. Less optimistic punters who believe both sides have robust defences, may stick to a draw which can be backed at 12/5 in Premier League betting.

It’s a difficult match to predict though, Fulham will be without key defender Brede Hangeland due to his suspension after a red card against Sunderland and they will no doubt miss him. Tottenham’s defence will be bolstered however by the return of Steven Caulker back after an illness. Fulham may see the return of Kieran Richardson though who hasn’t played since the club drew with Arsenal last month, but they will still be missing key players Alexander Kacaniklic and Bryan Ruiz who remain sidelined due to hamstring injuries.  The Cottagers will be relying on their star signing of the summer Dimitar Berbatov to provide the goals as the clubs current top scorer. He is priced at 13/2 to get the first goal of the match or 9/4 in football betting to score in 90-minutes. Spurs’ top scorer is Jermain Defoe closely followed by Gareth Bale and they’re priced at 11/8 and 9/4 respectively to get a goal any time during the match.

The home side will be eager to keep a clean sheet on home turf particularly after a run of no wins in six games, and the cleaner the win the better. Mark Schwarzer’s power will be tested here though, and it’s not expected he will be able to keep out the likes of Bale, Defoe or even ex-team mate Dempsey. A Spurs clean sheet is priced at 7/2, but they will also have a job on their hands keeping the goals out too, a Fulham clean sheet win is priced at 19/4 though not looking likely, it seems both teams are likely to score here at odds of 8/15.
