Champions Day gets underway tomorrow and its set to draw in crowds of people for what could be the final race of the greatest horse Frankel. But there’s loads of action to get involved with in horse racing betting prior to his race in the Champions Stakes and it all gets started with the British Champions Long Distance Cup at 13:45.
Opinion Poll currently leads the betting at 3/1 ridden by Mickael Barzalona. The six-year-old has had an exceptional career to date and came second in the Gold Cup at Ascot in June also ridden by Barzalona.
Colour Vision follows Opinion Poll at 5/1 and is actually the horse that beat him in the Gold Cup. Ridden by Frankie Dettori this four-year-old Grey Gelding has an impressive record at Ascot and was third behind Molly Malone at Longchamp in its last race. It has moved in price from 6/1.
Fame and Glory is at 11/2 in horse racing betting having moved from an original price of 6/1. This Aiden O’Brien trained six-year-old will certainly be one to watch out for in this race though it only managed a 7th place finish in the Gold Cup in June, it won the Long Distance Cup at Ascot last year beating this year’s favourite Opinion Poll so it could be between these two again this year. Aiken ridden by William Buick will also be worth noting as fourth favourite at odds of 6/1 having moved from an 8/1 original price. It came 4th in the Hardwicke Stakes at Ascot in June and is a course winner at this track. The bay colt has a good racing career to date with many wins under its belt from last year.
The Champions Sprint Stakes follow this race at 14:20 and the current favourite is Wizz Kid at 10/3 and Society Rock at 11/4 in horse racing betting. Society Rock ridden by Kieren Fallon won its last race in September ridden by the same jockey at Haydock and is a C&D winner. It won at Ascot in June last year in the Golden Jubilee Stakes but only managed a 5th place finish at this track in June of this year in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes. It was placed 12th in the Champions Sprint Stakes in 2011 so it will be interesting to see how it will feature here. Wizz Kid won the Prix De L’abbaye at Longchamp earlier this month beating Mayson by a neck, but was second in last year’s Sprint Stakes so will be worth keeping an eye on.
Slade Power has an impressive record and could also feature in this race having only ever won or come second in all its races so far. The three-year-old is a distance winner here and can be backed to win the Sprint Stakes at odds of 8/1.
The Champions Fillies And Mares Stakes at 14:55 has seen some movement this morning the current favourite is Great Heavens at 5/2 (original price 9/4). Ridden by William Buick this three-year-old has won four races this year and is followed by second favourite Sapphire at 7/2. Sapphire is a distance winner and has won two races this year at Cork, with five wins in 10 runs overall. Dancing Rain is the third favourite at 11/2 and the Chestnut Filly has won over C&D. It won this race last year ridden by the same jockey Johnny Murtagh can he make it two in a row?
The Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at 15:30 has several good horses in the running. The current solid favourite is Excelebration and is sure to win this one currently priced at 8/11. It’s won one race so far this year only coming second to Frankel in it’s others including the Queen Anne Stakes at Ascot in June. It’s followed in horse racing betting by Cityscape currently priced at 7/2 (original price 4/1) and came third at Ascot in the Queen Anne Stakes in the summer. The third favourite is Elusive Kate. The three-year-old has won one race so far this year ridden by William Buick at Deauville in July, and has come second and third in its two races since then. It’s can be backed at 11/2.
Last but by no means least the Champion Stakes is the big race of the day. It’s seen some movement in horse racing betting but with the standout horse Frankel racing possibly his last race; it’s difficult to see any other runners featuring here. The favourite is of course Frankel priced at 1/5 and is followed by last year’s winner Cirrus Des Aigles at a current price of 4/1 (original price 10/3). The Bay Gelding has won over C&D and won at Longchamp earlier this month, with a total three wins this year. Nathaniel is the third favourite at 9/1 and has beaten the favourite here. It came 5th in the Champions Stakes last year though and since then has won win under its belt.
