The 2010 Super 14 was contested by clubs from Australia (four teams), New Zealand (five) and South Africa (five). First held in its current round robin format in 1996 as the Super 12, the tournament expanded to fourteen teams in 2006. The 2010 Super 14 final was played between two South African teams, the Bulls and the Stormers.

The Bulls won the final 25-17, in the process winning their third Super 14 title. The Bulls were in fact winning their third title out of the last four competitions, confirming their status as the pre-eminent clud side in the Southern Hempisphere.

From 2011 the tournament will be contested by fifteen teams, and will be known as the Super 15.
